What’s happened this week 1st July 2018

Today was Wild Day at the Mapesbury Dell. It was nice to see so many locals turn up with their kids to see Safari Pete, the petting zoo and enjoy a drink and BBQ.

There were also many reports that the Queens Park Book Festival was a great success in this weekend’s sunny weather.

Tuesday the 3rd, is the next Kilburn Neighbourhood Plan Forum members’ meeting. Turn up to have your say on the future of Kilburn.

On the same day at 7pm is the BRAT NW6 meeting, everyone is welcome to attend. Might be of interest since a representative of the Kiln (Tricycle) will be there.

Need a creative outlet? There is a FREE creative workshop every Monday at SHELL centre

What was living in Kilburn like back in the 1900’s? This replica dolls house at the V&A museum of childhood shows you.

New burger restaurant Funky Burgoo is opening soon and recruiting for staff

Damas Gardens will soon become a  restaurant called Maderos. We have heard it will become a Mexican restaurant but we’ll have to wait and see.

And not only are Charcoal Grill expanding next door but they’re applying for an alcohol license

The Black Lion is now offering Tapas again.

It has been confirmed that Vince Power is bringing back live music to Kilburn. WillVan Morrison appear? They have in the past as this is the act traditionally opening all of his venues.

If you have a child aged 6+ check out the FREE creative classes available for young people at the Granville

The hut in Grange Park turned into a Pop Up art studio this week. The Friends of Grange Park are organising a festival in Grange Park on 8th July from 12pm to 7pm.

If you like basketball there’s a 5 a side weekly game happening. Free for south Kilburn residents or if you’re an LBA member.

A new billboard in adorning the Kingsgate Workshops, and a new exhibition started this week.

There still isn’t any action by Brent Council to clean up the murals under the bridge near Kilburn tube station which is very disappointing as this mural highlights Kilburn’s historical importance.

Also on the theme of items not happening. Brent Council published that the Kilburn High Road would be closed from the 20th July for 90 days for major resurfacing work. And then tweeted that the information was incorrect. So we will have to put up with the potholes in the road for longer instead. Both residents and businesses are rather upset at the lack of action from Brent Council to make the road safe and reinstate line painting. Weekend work will however happen to do anti skid works south of Willesden Lane.

Another lovely then vs now picture comparison of the Kilburn High Road. This time at the bottom end.

It was sad to see that emergency services were called to nearby West Hampstead tube station on Friday. Reports were that a man suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
