Festive season- how to give back and what help is available.

We are blessed by a large number of initiatives in and around Kilburn that will hopefully help spread some festive cheer to the less fortunate. Here is a list below and their plea for donations or/and volunteers. Please consider helping and direct people (in need of help) you may know to them. We have only included initiatives that do not require an “official” referral, and thus are opened to all, no questions asked.

  1. St Laurence’s Larder (Christ Church entrance on 169 Willesden Lane, London, NW6 7BG)- Free Take away meals on Thursdays from 10am to 1.30pm. They also operate a food bank with cupboard essentials. Run entirely by volunteers they hope to raise money to continue their services and offer a Festive take Away. Donate here.
  2. Granville Community Kitchen-(The Granville, 140 Carlton Vale, London NW6 5HE). Food aid (and sometimes home essentials) is provided twice a week on Wednesdays between 3pm and 4pm for families and Fridays between 5.30pm and 7pm for all others. They provide deliveries for people who cannot leave their home. They also operate a good food box scheme that suppplies affordable culturally appropriate fresh vegetables weekly. All are welcome to join. By joining at the “solidarity price” you will be helping subsidising fresh healthy food for others. You can get involved by volunteering and also by donating money.   3. Streetskitchen Kilburn ( Kilburn Square outside Clarks) Free food is served every Fiday at 7.15pm. They are always after volunteers to cook and/or serve the food. The best person to contact is Tony via twitter or inquiring at their stall every Friday. They will serve a Christmas Lunch on 25th december at 11am on Kilburn Square.
  4. Foodcycle Kilburn (St Cuthbert’s Church, Fordwych Road, NW2 3TN) Free take away meal every Saturday between 1.30 and 2.30pm. You can volunter here to cook (all roles fulfilled until the end of December) or donate here although the donation goes to a central pot and not to the Kilburn project directly.
  5. West Hampstead Community Food Hub.(Sidings Community Centre, 150 Brassey Road, NW6 2BA)- Free food parcels every Saturday from 1.30pm. Around 110 households in Kilburn and West Hampstead are supported by the food hub. Food donations are always welcome at these drop off points. You can also donate money here so that their work can continue, volunteer here or help with their festive appeal by donating small gifts by the 11th december.
  6. Sacred Heart Church (Quex road, NW6 4PS) Free cooked food every Thursday at 5pm in the Porch, also Quex food Bank opened daily for none perishable emergency food packages. Food donations can be made inside the Church through the heart shaped display.If the Church is closed please ring the bell on the side door. Sacred Heart also operate a befriending service.
  7. Shak (South Hampstead and Kilburn CommunityPartnership) They provide a cooking club. You pick up the free ingredients on a Thursday and follow the provided recipe.To register email them or phone them on 0300 365 2003. They also offer a befriending service.
  8. Kiln Theatre in Collaboration with Food for All (269 Kilburn High Road, NW6 7JR). Free take away meals every Tuesday between 12 and 1.30pm. You can donate here to support the Kiln’s community initiatives that include the delivery of free meals.
  9. Salvation Army Kilburn (55 Chichester Road, NW6 5QW) Christmas appeal for new toys. You can consult their Amazon wish list here, donate funds here or drop off toys at the Church on Tuesdays between 1.30pm and 3pm or at the Granville during opening hours.
  10. Feast with Us (operating out of JW3 Centre on Finchley Road) They have been delivering free ready meals in Kilburn since the start of the Pandemic on Wednesdays. If you know somebody who might benefit please see here. They have a number of volunteer roles (drivers, cooks, facilitators etc..) that you can access here and also have a festive appeal where you can donate money to support their work…and they always need clean plastic containers to deliver the food.
  11. Sherriff Centre ( St Jame’s Church, Sheriff Road) The Sheriff Centre have a community fridge and community shelf where donations can be left. Anybody in need is welcome to pick up free supplies on week days and saturdays between 9am and 5 pm and on sundays between 1.30 and 4pm. The project is called “take what you need , give what you can”. As well as food donations they need volunteers. Closed 24th December to 28th December
  12. Rumi’s Cave (Carlton Vale, NW6 5HH)- Free cooked breakfast served every week day morning between 9 and 11am from the Carlton centre.
