What’s happened this fortnight 13th October 2019
Want to find out what is planned for the big Street Party on Kilburn High Road on 11th July 2020? Please register to attend the meeting on 16th October at 6.30pm. We will all be affected by the expected 100000 visitors!
Brent Council are consulting on their draft Action Plan for the ‘Night Time Economy in Kilburn’. Consultation is opened until 3rd November. Please do read the report and answer the questionnaire wether you are based in Brent or Camden. We do welcome the fact that Kilburn has gained some importance in Brent’s agenda. However we are puzzled by the fact that most of the background data used to inform this report is Brent based, very little mention of Camden. We also question why public realm improvements are part of this action plan. We have been promised public realm improvements since 2013 and they should happen regardless of this plan. We have still not heard back about the promised October Consultation on the High Road Improvements.
We went to explore South Kilburn a bit more and found quite of few gems. This street art, this tree, this Victorian lamp fitting and this extensive tomato farming endeavour. Sadly we also found out that open spaces have been privatised as part of the regeneration, and that L&Q, despite there rather shambolic performance are still allowed to advertise. The demolition of the Peel Precinct is underway. You can still comment (until 17th October) on the new Planning Application for its redevelopment.
We should know by the time our next newsletter comes out, the results of the ‘Regeneration Poll’ in South Kilburn. There has been a lot of controversy about this poll as it only involves some residents and makes promises that some doubt are true.
Sir Robert Peel Public House, then, a bit later and now…. In the meantime, still in South Kilburn, Brent will be discussing tomorrow the future of the Partnership, established to redevelop site 18, ie Cullen House and the Falcon Pub. Another blow for South Kilburn or a chance to save the Falcon Pub under the Brent Pub Protection Policy since the approved planning application dates back to 2012?
The Friends of Old Paddington Cemetery were hard at work the last 2 weekends, despite the rain, raking the grass to create a wild flowers meadow. We got the opportunity to see inside the gem that is the East Chapel.
Kilburn High Road was flooded on several occasions this fortnight. Unfortunately gullies and drains have not been cleaned and some are still full of tarmac from the road resurfacing in December 2018. We were soaked by this and there was a lake by Kilburn Station.
This tweet, a Spaceship in Kilburn, got a huge amount of hits. Beautiful picture.
Glad to report that Palmerston Road looks a bit cleaner after months of reporting and shaming. Hope it lasts. We would like all the business bins to be removed!
The ‘Cleaner Brent’ App seems to have evaporated in IOS and android apps stores. You can use the Clean Camden App, that works also in Brent or the lovecleanstreets app that works nationwide to report flytips and other issues.
Want to help green up Kilburn? You can register for a group buying scheme for Solar Panels by 22nd October 2019. There is no obligation and the scheme works in Brent and Camden. Register here. Also free trees are on offer for individuals and Community groups. Do apply here by 11th November.
Kilburn State of Mind, based in Watlings Gardens are looking for donations of guitars and keyboards.
On the planning front, Glengall House want to add a floor, and so do 244 Kilburn High Road. Please comment on the applications. Also 12 Cambridge Gardens, that houses Kilburn Park GP surgery, want to change their restricted use.
And yes, most of you think that the joint policing unit for Kilburn High Road should be reinstated!
In the business news category, Fayrouse are refurbishing again, the motorcycle business at 90 Loveridge Road has been replaced by a tyre and car rental business, Shiba Grill opened at 256 Kilburn High Road, Money Exchange at 9 Kilburn High Road became H&T Pawnbrokers, USA Nail Art improved their frontage, Maderos added some sparkle, offices opened at 286-290 Kilburn High Road, and Integrity set up shop at 76 Willesden Lane.

A number of businesses, retail units have been added to the list of business units for rent or sale on the High Road; Moroccan Deli, Funky Burgoo, 226 Kilburn High Road, Finish Line. Please do support our local businesses!

Our parks look green and healthy, but are they as polluted at the surrounding streets? Find out here.
Do not forget to book a workshop at the Kingsgate Workshops open day.
Do you remember the river in Kilburn High Road in July 2012?
Because pigeons always feature, there is a sign that TFL might finally address the issue by Kilburn Station.
